Have you noticed a strange smell coming from your washing machine? And that strange smell is making your laundry not so fresh smelling?
Change your laundry detergent
The brand of laundry powder/liquid you use can make a massive difference. Detergents with more fillers and added fragrances tend to be the worst culprits as they will leave more residue behind.
Of course we use Award Wining Tri Nature Laundry Powder, which has NO fillers, or extenders and the fragrances are 100% natural. We have had great feedback from customers saying how much they love our Laundry Powder and how much of a difference it has made to their clothes and machine.
Avoid using too much detergent
Just because you have an extra dirty load of laundry does not mean that you should add a lot of extra detergent. If you are concerned about extra stains, pre-treat them or soak them in the sink prior to washing. Adding more detergent can lead to more residue build-up and actually decrease your machine’s cleaning efficiency! I often find that the recommended amounts of detergent are much higher than needed. So play around with the amount of detergent you add to get the right amount for your machine.
Tri Nature Laundry Powder comes with a 25ml scoop and we have found half a scoop is enough for a full load of washing.
Avoid Nasty Fabric Softeners
Some fabric softeners can do more harm than good. If you use a fabric softener have a look at the ingredient list and do some research of what you are actually using. Ordinary softeners can build up on fabric and create a waterproofing effect.
Tri Nature’s Angelica Fabric Softener is a naturally derived fabric conditioning concentrate that effectively softens, conditions, deodorizes and sanitises fabrics.
Leave the door open
Leave your washing machine door slightly ajar to allow air to circulate and help to prevent the growth of mold and mildew.
DEEP clean your washing machine on a regular basis
Start by wiping down the whole rubber gasket with a white rag using Tri Nature’s Sphagnum Moss Disinfectant and warm water. Make sure you pull back the rubber gasket to clean inside as well as this is where most of the mold will be. If there is still mold remaining, spray it with Sphagnum Moss Disinfectant and let it sit for 30 minutes after soaking, scrub the gasket with an old toothbrush. Next, run the machine through a complete empty cycle (at the hottest setting, if possible) add 50ml of Tri Nature’s Maxim Machine Descaler onto the floor of the machine and it’s ready to go. SIMPLE!
